MI6 Launches Dark Web Portal to Attract Spies in Russia

MI6 has launched a new dark web portal, Silent Courier, designed to attract spies in Russia and around the world. The secure platform will allow potential informants to share sensitive information with Britain’s intelligence services safely and anonymously.

The Foreign Office confirmed the move as part of a wider global recruitment drive. From Friday, instructions on how to access the system will be available on MI6’s verified YouTube channel, with users advised to log on through secure VPNs and devices not linked to their identity.

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said the initiative would strengthen national security and keep Britain ahead of its adversaries:

“National security is the first duty of any government and the bedrock of the Prime Minister’s Plan for Change. As the world changes, and the threats we’re facing multiply, we must ensure the UK is always one step ahead.”

Outgoing MI6 chief Sir Richard Moore will formally announce the launch in Istanbul, telling potential recruits:

“Today we’re asking those with sensitive information on global instability, international terrorism or hostile state intelligence activity to contact MI6 securely online. Our virtual door is open to you.”

The UK’s approach mirrors a 2023 CIA initiative, when the US agency used social media videos to target Russian spies.
