WW3 Fears Surge as Top-Secret Files Warn China Could Sink US Carrier ‘Within Minutes’

Freshly uncovered details from a top-secret US military assessment have sent shockwaves through Washington, raising fears that China could win a war over Taiwan, and sink America’s most advanced aircraft carrier in mere minutes.

According to reporting originally shared by The Telegraph, the classified “Overmatch Brief” paints an alarming picture: in simulated conflict scenarios, China consistently outmanoeuvres the United States, using overwhelming numbers of cheaper, rapidly produced weapons to counter America’s costlier high-tech systems.

Top US Officials ‘Turned Pale’ at China’s Military Redundancies

One national security official under President Joe Biden reportedly “turned pale” after reviewing the document, stunned by China’s extensive layers of back-up systems designed to counter almost every US advantage.

The findings suggest that Beijing has “redundancy after redundancy” for “every trick” traditionally used by the US military, according to The New York Times.

Losing Taiwan, long seen as a vital democratic ally and a core barrier to Chinese power in the western Pacific, would deliver a devastating strategic and symbolic blow to the United States.

US’s Most Advanced Carrier ‘Frequently Destroyed’ in Simulations

The assessment includes wargame results showing the USS Gerald R. Ford, America’s $13bn (£9.75bn) flagship aircraft carrier, being repeatedly destroyed.

Despite entering service in 2022, the vessel remains highly vulnerable to:

  • Diesel-electric submarines, and
  • China’s stockpile of around 600 hypersonic missiles, capable of travelling at five times the speed of sound.

Eric Gomez, from the Taiwan Security Monitor, noted that in a recent simulation, the US suffered heavy losses, even when the overall outcome remained uncertain.

“The US loses a lot of ships in the process. A lot of F-35s and other tactical aircraft… are degraded pretty rapidly too,” he told reports.

Pentagon’s Own Wargames Show Repeated Defeat

The findings echo a stark admission from Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, who confirmed last year that the US loses “every time” in Pentagon wargames involving a China–Taiwan conflict.

He warned that Chinese hypersonic missiles could take out US carriers within minutes of a confrontation breaking out.

China Expands Missile Arsenal as Tensions Rise

The report also highlights China’s rapidly growing missile capacity. Beijing now has a vast arsenal of:

  • Short-range missiles
  • Medium-range missiles
  • Intermediate-range missiles

Together, these systems could allow China to destroy advanced US weapons well before they reached Taiwan, giving Beijing a major tactical edge in the opening stages of any conflict.

With US–China tensions intensifying, the Overmatch findings act as a direct warning: America must adapt, or risk being outmatched in a future war.
